Hi everyone! We cannot believe that we are within 5 weeks of being done with our season! It has sure flown by. Week 14 was an amazing week of fishing. Our fish head bucket was full almost every day. Thank you to all of our guests for making last week another great one.
Walleye fishing last week was great. We had a number of new people who didn’t take guides and found fish all week. Fish were between 24 and 30 feet of water and minnows were the key bite. We didn’t hear of any 30s caught but a lot of 25+ fish were caught and released. Sunken Island, Sandbar, Shore Lunch Reef, and 3rd Hump seemed to be the hot spots last week.
Northern fishing was fun for a lot of people last week. We didn’t have anyone specifically targeting the giant fish, which means 30ish inches was the big one on the week, but we cleaned tons of nice 20-27” eaters.
Bass fishing is still going strong and doesn’t seem to be slowing down like it normally does this time of year. Crank baits and swim baits caught a lot of nice bass last week.
Perch fishing was crazy last week. Buckets and buckets and more buckets of perch were cleaned. Church lake and Jackfish were the hot spots. The people who got into Spadina caught lots of perch, but with the low water it was very difficult to get in. Worms were what the perch wanted.
Also, we are very upset to have to post this in the blog but, it is getting out of hand. We have been left the last few weeks with a good number of all species of fish in the fish freezers. COUNT YOUR FISH! It is your responsibility to keep track of what you have in your freezer fish bin. When a customer leaves fish behind and we keep them, it goes towards our personal limits and we are not obligated to take them toward our limit. Technically, if fish are left behind, we should report it to MNR which would mean big fines to the person who is over limit. There is absolutely no reason to leave fish behind. If you keep the fish, you take possession of it, and it is yours. Mistakes happen but do not just leave fish here and expect not to have consequences. COUNT YOUR FISH!
On a positive note, the fire ban has been lifted!
Have a nice week everyone!
