2018 Year-End Newsletter

Our 2018 season was filled with extremely good fishing and was super busy! We want to thank all guests who came to vacation with us here at Manotak Lodge. We enjoyed seeing our “regulars” and meeting all new guests. Each of you make Manotak Lodge a very special place!

Fishing was the best we have seen in our four years of lodge ownership. Perrault Lake doesn’t fail to impress! It is unbelievable what the density of BIG fish is in this body of water. We are estimating around 30 walleyes over 30 inches were caught AND released this summer! Yes, released! We take pride in our conservation rules, so it makes us smile to hear when a big fish is released! 10+ pike over 40 inches were also caught and released. Perch fishing was crazy this year. Bass fishing was also very solid with bass averaging 17-19” caught consistently all season. It wasn’t our best year of musky fishing, but we still saw 5 muskies over 50” caught and released. We are fishing for the future. We want our kids and grandkids and great grandkids to be able to come to all of these Northern Ontario lakes and be able to experience the great fishing we are blessed with.

We had high hopes of painting every cabin this summer but were just too busy cleaning fish and doing general maintenance to get anything else complete. We have a plan for next year and you will see lots of brown and orange paint! We did manage to install a new floor in cabin 3. Cabin 3 also received a new toilet. We replaced a huge amount of stair boards and deck boards, with the majority being on the dock at the lake. We also added a nice dock with a “T” on the end off the crib dock, so planes can safely dock for fly-outs and sight-seeing trips. At the end of the season, we ripped the deck off cabin 14 and it will be replaced in the spring (pray for early spring). We have the material to put a new metal roof on the shop because it leaks horribly, but so far the fall snow has not made that possible. Again, an early spring would be wonderful!

The only low point of the season was when we lost our little pup, Harper, who was not even 2 years old. We are devastated to say she died of a fast-growing cancerous tumor which burst on her heart. She was just the most lovable and good-natured dog and we know you all loved her and will miss her as much as we do.

We are filling up faster than normal for 2019. Please call or email soon for your desired week and cabin choice. Our 2019 prices will be posted very soon online. There was a slight increase due to many rising costs here, the largest which is the cost of fuel. We are doing our best to keep our prices affordable and competitive. Please keep in mind the very high level of service you receive here at Manotak and the other perks we include such as fish cleaning, ice, Wi-Fi, and supplying linens and towels, when comparing us to others. We know we are not always the cheapest, but we believe we are the best value for your dollar.

We do request that if you have a reservation for 2019 on the books and have not paid your deposit, we need to receive those by November 1, 2018. Please understand that if you don’t have a paid deposit and you have not contacted us or responded to our email, we cannot hold your cabin beyond November 1st as our livelihood depends on booking our camp with valid reservations. Please call or email us with questions. We don’t want anyone to miss out on their 2019 fishing vacation!

We will be hitting the sports show circuit in early January 2019 and plan to participate in 7-8 shows. We would love to visit with you about staying at Manotak Lodge and experiencing the world class fishing on beautiful Perrault Lake! Check the website www.manotak.com for show dates and locations.

Also, we are getting ready for some website updates, sport show photo books, and lots of promotional Facebook posts. We will be traveling a bit in November and December so please have patience with our response times to phone calls and emails. We will answer them in the order received as soon as possible.
